Marie Keith's Story
Opportunities for service are everywhere. So far, I've been able to volunteer in my local communities in different capacities, which of course is most important. But until now, I've never had a chance to go on a service trip, let alone to a developing part of the world.
I have two top reasons for wanting to go on this trip. The first one is the opportunity to give back. I've been blessed in so many ways in this life. I feel called to step up and serve others who may be blessed in different ways, but not as materially fortunate as most people in my community are.
The other important reason for me to go is the experience I hope to have with the people in the Nicaraguan community of Cusmapa, especially the children with whom my group will be working. I imagine they have a very different perspective on life and the world than I do, and I would like to try to see things from their perspective, as I am sure it will open my eyes.
I don't plan on solving all the world's problems in the ten days I'll be spending in Nicaragua. But I do plan on putting 100% effort into every task and into every encounter. And no one person can solve all the world's problems. But if we all do our part, we can make the world a better place.
I, the members of my group, and the children of Cusmapa will greatly appreciate any support you can give! Thank you so much and God bless!
