Hello everyone!
Even though the school year has just started, I'm already super excited for winter break because I will be spending the first part of break with students from the Sheil Catholic Center on their annual service trip to Cusmapa, Nicaragua to volunteer with La Familia Padre Fabretto. The Fabretto organization enables impoverished Nicaraguan children and their families to break the cycle of poverty through programs that promote nutrition, health, education, and character development. Fabretto serves nearly 10,000 children in the remote areas of Nicaragua. We will be working directly with the children in their after-school programs. To learn more, check out their website at: www.fabretto.org.
This trip is really important to me because I have never been on a service trip before. However, I have always enjoyed volunteering, and a week of service to others is sure to be a difficult but rewarding experience. I hope this trip will allow me to grow in my faith, become a better person, and of course, practice my Spanish.
The cost for this year's trip is $1,800 per person. Many of our students would not be able to make the trip without the help of our fundraising efforts. Your financial contribution is greatly appreciated! The money first goes to pay for our trip expenses. Any additional money will be given to Fabretto to support their programs in Nicaragua. Thank you for your generous support!
There are two ways to make a donation: 1) By clicking on the "Donate Now!" button to the left. 2) By mailing your donation to me by December 1. You can mail it to me at 9100 McVicker Ave. Morton Grove, IL 60053. Make checks payable to “Sheil Catholic Center” and include my name in the memo line.
In preparation for our trip, our travelers regularly gather together as a faith community. We use our time together to educate one another about the people, culture, and economics of Nicaragua. We also spend time together in prayer – to share our hopes and fears, to welcome God on the journey with us, and ask God to bless the children of Nicaragua and their families. We invite you to pray with us as well.
Thank you for your support during this journey. Your prayers and financial contributions are greatly appreciated!
