Jason Smith's Story
This year I will be lucky enough to spend part of my Winter Break in Nicaragua, where I hope to have an incredible experience. In my college career so far, I have gone on a few other service trips, and I've heard from a number of people who went previously that it is a very meaningful trip. However, I have never been on this type of mission trip, and never one that is abroad. It will be an opportunity for me to gain a new perspective on what is important and volunteer in a community that is unlike any I have visited before.
We will be working on various projects that will help the people in Cusmapa, and while the week that we spend there won't automatically make the world a better place, I hope that we are at least able to make a small difference. Even though we are just a small group of college students, we are prepared to do whatever it is that the community asks us to do.
This will be a mutually beneficial experience, as we will be helping the community at the same time that they are helping us. I know that the trip will lead to a change in my own attitude, and broaden my view of the world, something I realize is of extreme importance. I'm very excited to be able to have this kind of extraordinary opportunity, and I greatly appreciate any and all support as I prepare for this memorable experience. I am also planning on putting any money I fundraise towards the Sheil group and towards Fabretto.
