Each year, the Sheil Catholic Center sponsors an international service trip to Cusmapa, Nicaragua where we work in collaboration with the Fabretto Children's Foundation (www.fabretto.org).  All of our volunteers are students, and many of them rely on the support of our scholarship funds.  Any money raised above and beyond their trip expenses will be given as a gift to Fabretto to support their programs in Nicaragua.  We are grateful for any gift you can contribute!

The Sheil Catholic Center is the Catholic outreach on the campuses of Northwestern University.  We are a faith community of students, faculty, staff and associates who together offer a welcoming place for worship, celebration of sacraments and pastoral care. We promote education and spiritual growth, as well as provide opportunities for service and leadership within the academic setting. Our mission is to transform society by renewing our faith and inviting others to know Christ.  Learn more about the Sheil Catholic Center at www.sheil.northwestern.edu

Jonathan's Story
"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." -Mother Teresa

When I brought up to my parents the idea of a service trip to Nicaragua, it was met with some hesitation. "Why Nicaragua? Why can't you come and do service back home in LA?" There is something about doing service abroad that no other experience can give you, and that is seeing the face of God in the different people of the world while experiencing a mutual respect and joy through one another. To step out of one's world and enter the world of someone whom you may have never imagined meeting yields a reward that is priceless.

After participating in 2 service trips abroad, I have discovered that there is no better way to use my gifts than for children and service. Service is a way to establish an avenue of love and to really discover who we are called to be. Furthermore, service is the driving force in my life that led me to devoting my future to being a pediatrician, hopefully joining organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, in order to help give the gift of peace and joy to children in a world that struggles to uphold such values.

This Nicaragua Trip serves as an extremely exciting opportunity and I am exceedingly grateful for the support of my family and friends in pursuing the thing I love most, service. I am excited to meet the people of Nicaragua, to learn about their values and lifestyle, and to witness the amazing gifts of this group of students interacting for a greater good, all while receiving in greater abundance the rewards from being amongst the community we will serve!
Donations will go directly towards funding the costs and logistics of the Nicaragua Trip. All other donations beyond that will go to the Fabretto Children's Foundation. I'd appreciate your support in this endeavor!
