Each year, the Sheil Catholic Center sponsors an international service trip to Cusmapa, Nicaragua where we work in collaboration with the Fabretto Children's Foundation (www.fabretto.org).  All of our volunteers are students, and many of them rely on the support of our scholarship funds.  Any money raised above and beyond their trip expenses will be given as a gift to Fabretto to support their programs in Nicaragua.  We are grateful for any gift you can contribute!

The Sheil Catholic Center is the Catholic outreach on the campuses of Northwestern University.  We are a faith community of students, faculty, staff and associates who together offer a welcoming place for worship, celebration of sacraments and pastoral care. We promote education and spiritual growth, as well as provide opportunities for service and leadership within the academic setting. Our mission is to transform society by renewing our faith and inviting others to know Christ.  Learn more about the Sheil Catholic Center at www.sheil.northwestern.edu

I know that throughout my life I have been incredibly privileged and I cannot thank God enough for all of the blessings in my life.  This December, I hope to give some of what I have been given, back to the wold.

I had many inspirations for wanting to go on this trip in December.  After a hesitant start, I cannot fully express in words my current excitement about getting to travel and make a real difference in someone's life this holiday season.
First, my best friend Katherine is an incredible person who always reminds me to keep my faith in my life.  She is the most caring person I know and she encouraged me to go on the trip to have an experience similar to hers in the Dominican Republic during High School.
Second, I was truly debating whether or not I wanted to go.  I was scared and nervous about missing time home with my family.  However, my older sister reminded me of myself, and told me that I would always regret the decision not to go if I chose not to.  She was absolutely right.  I need and want this challenge and I cannot wait to embrace it with so many wonderful people from the Sheil community.
My final inspiration came from, of course, God.  I have always wanted to participate in a service trip and I am very lucky to be able to be going this December.  I hope to get the chance to make a child's life a little better, even if it's just for one day.

I believe that this trip will permanently change my life.
