As a small faith community missioned from Sheil, we look to build relationships with the people at the border, with those who serve them, and with one another. We intend to look, listen and engage the real situation of those living at the border, as well as those seeking to cross the border. In our daily reflections, we will reflect on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and share how the experience is challenging and encouraging our growth in faith. We will seek to love those that we meet and love one another in Christ. This is a "learning-service trip" we will learn from the people that we meet and with whom we collaborate. We will be changed by our time at the border, and hopefully will be Catholics with an enlivened faith upon our return.

We ask our sponsors to support us in prayer and if possible, by making a donation.

Sheil Catholic Center, Northwestern University, mission trip to the border of Arizona and Mexico, December 14-21, 2019

Hello! My name is Yazmin Lopez and I am a sophomore at Northwestern University studying Statistics and Environmental Policy and Culture. Missions to me are an opportunity to become socially aware of the human experiences of others by learning about the history of community, the stories of those marginalized, and reflecting on the implications of cultural and social identities. This mission to Arizona is a way of creating social change by partaking in community embracement of simplicity, solidarity, service, and social justice values. Since missions are grounded in social justice by the work that is done in marginalized communities that promote civic engagement, I am intrigued to bring back what I will learn on the trip to the Northwestern community and back home. I hope you consider making a donation of any amount to my fundraising page.
